14 people perish in ghastly motor accident along Lagos – Ibadan highway

Fourteen people have been burnt to death in an ghastly motor accident along Lagos-Ibadan expressway after a Toyota RAV. 4 and Mazda bus involved in the accident at around 10:20 in the night yesterday.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Spokesman of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the accident on Friday morning and said a commercial bus said to have wrongly overtaken a vehicle had hit a stationed faulty vehicle, Toyota Rav 4 parked in the middle of the road while the bus was said to have lost control and somersaulted severally before bursting into flames.

Akinbiyi revealed that 14 passengers including three children were confirmed burnt to death after the accident.

He said, “In all, 17 passengers were in the bus when the crash happened, with three seriously injured, and 14 burnt beyond recognition, among which are three kids”

He added that TRACE operatives and other security agencies rushed two victims to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre and one other to the General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos.

TRACE has sympathized with the family of the victims and warned drivers to desist from reckless driving like over speeding, wrongful overtaking and overbearing attitude that exposes other road users to risk and danger.
