Kano police have arrested an 18-year-old boy over alleged murder of a 21-year-old housewife, Rukayya Jamilu.
The boy also injured the deceased’s two children in an attempt to steal her phone.
The principal suspect, Abdulsamad Suleiman, was arrested along with a 17-year-old accomplice, Mu’azzam Lawan.
Rukayya was killed in her matrimonial home at the Danbare area of Kano metropolis, on February 12, 2022.
Two of the deceased’s children aged between three and one were also beaten to a pulp by the assailants.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement by the spokesperson of the Kano Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the Principal suspect confessed that on 12/02/2022 at about 1600hrs, he went to the house of the deceased as his relative and met her on the bed.
“After he greeted her, he saw three mobile phones and took them. Having realized that, she recognized him, he used a wooden-made pestle and repeatedly hit her on the head, and also hit her two children and left with the mobile phones.”
“He further confessed that he gave one of the mobile phones to his friend and sold the other two at twelve thousand naira. “
The statement added that “his friend was arrested and also confessed to having sold the mobile phone given to him belonging to the deceased at Two Thousand Naira.”
The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
