The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has said that sensitive electoral materials will no longer be kept with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He said the apex bank will not keep the sensitive materials on behalf of the INEC during the governorship election of Ekiti State.
According to him, the purpose of this decision is to ensure that the electoral materials for the upcoming elections are not tainted.
The INEC Chairman spoke while responding to questions in an ongoing dialogue in Elections in Abuja.
Several individuals and groups have raised serious concern about the sanctity of Elections materials kept with the CBN, after stories about the CBN governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, indicating interest to contest for the country’s presidential seat hit the airwaves in recent months.
