The Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has promised to support the 63rd Nigerian Economic Society (NES) the state is hosting.
Bayero while receiving a team from the NES, the largest professional body of Economists in Nigeria in his Palace on Wednesday said that he would always be receptive to the society’s activities.
He also said that Nigeria is relying on its knowledge to help it overcome its current economic challenges.
Speaking to SAHELIAN TIMES, the president of the society, Professor Ummu Ahmed Jalingo, said the NES team was at the emir’s palace to pay a courtesy visit extend a cordial invitation of the annual conference scheduled to take place on September 27, 28, and 29 of 2022.
The conference will be held in Kano for the first time in 42 years, the president claims.
The conference’s objectives, according to the president, were to bring professionals together to discuss the nation’s fiscal deficit and possible solutions.
In response to why Kano was chosen, she stated, “We wanted to have the feel of the conference from all segments of the country. It has held in different states, but it was last held in Kano around 1980s.
“So in 42 years we are bringing it to Kano to make sure we have the feel of the conference in the second commercial nerve centre in Nigeria, and the heartbeat of business in northern Nigeria,” she said.
The NES delegation include: Professor Ado Kofarmata, Prof. Dije Sulaiman, Dr. Zaharadden Maigoshi, Baffa Gwadabe, Tijjani Ahmad and Abdulsalam Maitama.
