28 lawyers seek bank boss’s prosecution

A group of 28 lawyers in Yobe State has sent a written application for Fiat to Prosecute the Managing Director, Yobe State Micro Finance Bank (YOSMFB), Dr. Sherriff Muhammad Ibrahim, to the Attorney-General of the state, for alleged offences regarding the disruption of public peace.

Ibrahim allegedly supported a controversial Islamic Scholar based in Kano state, Sheikh Dr Abduljabbar Kabara.

Islamic Scholars has ruled that, the preachings and ideologies of Sheikh Kabara were contrary to the Islamic Injunction.

The lawyers in the application sighted by SAHELIAN TIMES alleged the Ibrahim has made series of utterances/publications “against Prophet Muhammad (SAW)”.

According to the written application signed by 28 lawyers said the utterances have “angered Muslim Ummah, not just in Yobe but across all northern States.”

The group said that they are ready to dedicate time, resources and energy “until matter the time is brought to a logic conclusion at the State High Court, Damaturu, Yob State.

The Governor of Yobe State and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni had earlier said that his attention has been drawn to the recent reports in the media and other social media platforms related to Dr Sheriff.

“The attention of His Excellency, Yobe State Governor and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has been drawn to the discussions in the social media with claims and counterclaims of posts related to Dr Sherif AlMuhajirr.”

According to the statement, “ Governor Buni said the government had been working silently investigating the matter to unravel the reality of things and to be guided by facts in all its actions in the said matter.”

Findings by the reporter has shown that, Sherriff has since apoligise to the general public and later deleted his Facebook account.

Commentaries and reports from social media revealed that the MD was use to controversies on Social Media platforms.
