A Jigawa State High Court sitting in Birnin Kudu has sentenced four men to life imprisonment for rape.
The spokesperson of the state’s Ministry of Justice, Zainab Baba-Santali, stated this in a statement on Wednesday.
Justice Musa Ubale in his judgement on Wednesday, found the quartet of Umar Danladi, Abdussalam Sale, Auwalu Yunusa and Mu’azu Abdurrahman guilty of violating their victims on different occasions.
The first convict, Umar Danladi of Sabuwar Gwaram in Gwaram Local Government was alleged to have lured an 8 year old pupil whom was returning from school and raped her.
While Abdussalam Sale from Rafawa Village Dutse Local Government was found guilty of raping a 12 year old girl in Sabon Garin Barnawa. The culprit sent the victim for an errand, and on her return, he forcefully grabbed and raped her.
In a similar incident, Auwalu Yunusu of Kafin Fulani in Gwaram Local Government was found guilty of forcefully having carnal knowledge of a 6 year old girl, whom was returning from an errand the defendant sent her.
“In establishing the charge against the defendant, the prosecution called five witnesses, tendered two exhibits (statement of the defendant and medical report) and finally closed his case. On his side, the defendant testified as sole witness in his own defense and called no other witness,” the statement said.
Muazu Abdulrahman of Sabuwar Gwaram in Gwaram Local Government, was also found guilty of luring and raping an 8 year old pupil while she was returning from school on his farm.
“Honourable Justice Musa Ubale while delivering judgments in the four cases found that the prosecution through its counsel Yahaya Abdullahi had proved the cases beyond reasonable doubt, and that the four defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment based on the provision of Section 283 of the Penal Code Law of Jigawa State 2012 (as amended),” the statement added.
