Report from Kaduna state says over 500 gunmen will reportedly drop their arms after their recent meeting with renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.
It is reported that the gunmen that the criminals expected to drop their arms are the people who disturbed Zaria – Giwa highway and Birnin Gwari local government areas in Kaduna state.
During the sermon conducted by Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, leaders of the arms groups were given opportunity to speak, lamenting about the problems that forced them to take up arms.
They said they had been maltreated, ignored by people and unlawful arrests by police, killings by security men and unlawful extortion from the security personnel.
Sheikh Gumi had earlier met with armed men in their community, Sabon Garin Yadi in Giwa local government in Kaduna and organized a preaching session to the people of that community dominated by Fulani people.
The gesture made by Gumi to curtail the current insecurity in the state is supported by Nigerian government and security agencies.
