The Amnesty International Nigeria has once again called for an inquiry into the disappearance of government critic, Abubakar Idris Dadiyata, 611 days after his disappearance.

Dadiyata was abducted by unknown armed persons, since August 2019 and several non-governmental organisations in the country have raised questions and sustained awareness over his disappearance.

Tweeting on Saturday, Amnesty International wrote, “—Dadiyata; a critic of Nigerian government on social media, was abducted by gunmen, at home in #Kaduna 611 days ago. —His whereabouts remain unknown.
—Where is Dadiyata? —Where is Dadiyata?”

Dadiyata, who taught at Federal University Dutsinma, Kaduna State, was abducted from his home in the Barnawa neighbourhood in Kaduna by unidentified assailants on August 1, 2019.

He was a social media critic who often criticized the Muhammadu Buhari led-Administration.

Dadiyata was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party mad and he was influential in social media.

According to the police statement at the time, Dadiyata was returning home at about 1am when some armed men invaded his home and whisked him away in his BMW car.

Dadiyata was initially suspected to have been arrested by agents of the State Security Service or Nigerian Police but later they both denied arresting Dadayita.

Dadayita’s disappearance has inspired protests, both online and offline, such as that staged in August 2019 by the youth-wing of the Peoples Democratic Party.
