INEC may postpone March 11 gubernatorial, state assembly elections

Barring any change in circumstances, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is faced with no option other than to postpone the forthcoming gubernatorial and state assembly elections across the country.

The elections may be rescheduled by one week to take place on March 18, 2023.

The unexpected postponement resulted from the Commission’s failure to start reconfiguring the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections to make them usable for the state elections.

Recall that a Federal court had recently granted INEC permission to reconfigure the BVAS and move the data from the concluded presidential election to the backend where it can’t be tempered with.
