Edo govt imposes 24-hour curfew to curtail EndSARS protest violence

The Edo State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew across the state, in a reaction to the violence that trailed #EndSARS protest. The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Osarodion Ogie.

“This decision has become necessary because of the very disturbing incidents of vandalism and attacks on private individuals and institutions by hoodlums in the guise of #ENDSARS protesters.”, said Ogie.

While recognising the rights of the citizens to peaceful protest, he emphasized that the government will not condone any act of violence by some hoodlums who infiltrated the movement.

He further directed that all schools and businesses to be shut down immediately, and parents to rein in their children as anyone caught breaking the law would be dealt with decisively.

Earlier today, some protesters broke into a prison in Benin city and freed the inmates. Lately, there is increasing tension and tendency to breakdown of the law in some states where EndSARS protests are raging.
