Over 14% of Nigerians smoke cannabis or use heroin and opiates containing syrup. This stark revelation came from the Director of NDLEA, Titus-Awogbuyi Joyce, who confirmed the figures were collated in 2018.
Joyce also said that out of every four drug abusers, one is a woman, which clearly shows that drug abuse is affecting both men and women.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said there’re 246 millions drug abusers across the world as at 2014.
On his part, the Minister of Budget and Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade, reiterated that the high prevalence of drug abuse in Nigeria is a threat to national development and economic agenda.
