A Federal High Court in Abuja denied bail to Abba Kyari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police and former head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT), who is being detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for his alleged involvement in the 25 kg cocaine sale.

Kyari was arrested last week by the police and handed over to the NDLEA hours after he was declared wanted by the agency.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22, Kyari sought an order of the court to immediately release him or alternatively grant him bail.

However, in a request ex-parte filed by Kyari’s lawyer, C. O. Ikena, Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja rejected to allow the plea.

The judge issued a notice to the respondent, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Kyari’s lawyer, Cynthia Ikena, told the trial judge, Inyang Ekwo, that her client’s request for release was based on health concerns.
