Katsina State Government has denied the news carried by some media houses (not Sahelian Times) that the abducted students of Government Secondary School Kankara have been released.

The Secretary to Katsina State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, in an interview with BBC Hausa Service denied the story.

The story of the schoolboys’ release was first reported by Arise TV, and subsequently the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Ms Abike Dabire-Erewa, tweeted the story on her verified handle.

Abubakar Shekau-led faction of Boko Haram had earlier released a video on Thursday, confirming that the group has abducted schoolboys in its custody.

The video showed a distressed boy, surrounded by his peers, pleading for Nigerian government to avoid using force while making attempt to rescue them.

Currently, the tally of the schoolboys in captivity has reached 400 according to Gov Masari.
