A Kano-based Islamic cleric on trial for blasphemy, Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara, has informed the Upper Sharia he’s standing trial and that he has disengaged his lawyers.
Kabara stated that he would continue to defend himself in the ongoing blasphemy case until he secured the service of new counsel.
The Sheik’s counsels had previously informed the court in writing that they were withdrawing from the case.
When asked if he was aware of his lawyers’ withdrawal, the cleric replied, “I am aware, and I was the one who dropped them for violating our agreement.”
SAHELIAN TIMES gathered that the court has written to the state branch of the Legal Aid Council to provide lawyers to the accused.
Kabara was arraigned on Friday, July 16, before an Upper Sharia Court at Kofar Kudu for alleged blasphemy, and incitement.
