15 years after actor Ahmad S. Nuhu’s death, his Wife, Hafsat Shehu, opened up about their last conversation and their love life as a couple.
The Kannywood superstar died at the peak of his career while on his way to Maiduguri on January 1, 2007. However, the influence he left behind on and off the screen is indelible to his wife and many fans and admirers.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, his sobbing wife said he called her on a fateful day to tell her that he had arrived Azare, a town in Bauchi State.
“He called to tell me that they had arrived in Azare, and I asked where Azare was? He said it was a town after Bauchi,” she sobbed while narrating the story.
“He asked whether I knew he loved me, and I replied why he was saying all these things? And that was the last time I spoke with him,” she explained.
“I felt unusual. I was overwhelmed by cold and hunger. Thus, I went and cooked Indomie noodles, took it to the parlor, and covered myself with a blanket. But I couldn’t finish it.”
“One Danjuma came in and asked me to follow him to Ali Nuhu’s house, and that’s how I found out Ahmad was dead,” an emotionally drenched Hafsat told BBC while crying.
“Nobody told me he is dead. I felt it, you know there are things that you don’t need to be told, you feel it,” she said.
“Whenever I saw people laughing, I would ask my mother whether I would laugh again. She would answer that “Hafsat, you will laugh again.”
“When I put him on my status, people often ask why I have not yet forgotten him. They don’t know that I will never forget him; he’s my better half.”
“I still have his sweater, which makes me happy whenever I see it. I lost a true lover, she sobbed.
Hafsat was a Kannywood star before getting married to him, also stated that the story of Ahmad S Nuhu’s death is so upsetting that she refused to discuss it with anyone.
The deceased was introduced to the Kannywood industry by Ali Nuhu.
Ali Nuhu stayed in a house of Ahmad S Nuhu’s grandfather while studying Geography at the University of Jos.
