Following the steady increase in the membership of the party in the state since the defection of Governor Ben Ayade to the party, the Cross River State chapter if the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ordered for three million bundles of brooms from local producers in the state.
The state APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Bassey Ita, said that the request was necessitated by the series of thousands of defections witnessed in the state following the defection of the governor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The unprecedented rise in people joining the APC has resulted in scarcity of brooms in the state, the party’s symbol, Ita said.
He said that “millions of enthusiastic Cross Riverians continue to join the party in solidarity with the visionary and people-oriented governor.”
To address the challenge, the party ordered for three million bundles of broom from local suppliers to meet growing demand, he said.
The state publicity secretary said, “It is no longer news that the broom revolution has since hit our dear state following the defection of our amiable governor to our party, but what is now news is that broom scarcity has hit Cross River following growing demand for it as millions of our people continue to identify with the party.
“It is heart-warming that barely one month after the defection of His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade, into the APC, millions of our people including the youths have been pouring into the party on daily basis.
“Last weekend alone, scores of Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) faithful, including local government chairmen, councillors, federal and state lawmakers alongside over 100,000 of their supporters in Bekwarra, Ikom and Etung joined the party.”
To meet the growing demand for broom , the party said it has ordered for the procurement of three million bundles “because we cannot afford to deny Cross Riverians the possession of our party symbol as they troop into the APC, all the bunches of broom in the state having been virtually mopped up.”
The party expressed delight about the development, saying it will continue to receive with open arms thousands of people daily pouring in the APC in the state, in apparent alignment with Governor Ayade “in his drive to socket Cross River to the centre”.
