The Supreme Court will rule on the case between the two factions of the Kano chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Friday.

The two factions are led by the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the state’s former governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.

The party crack resulted in two parallel congresses that produced two sets of state executives on October 18, 2021.

Ganduje’s led faction produced Abdullahi Abbas as state chairman, while Shekarau’s faction elected Haruna Danzago to the same position.

The Shekarau camp had previously won in the High Court in Abuja.

A  Court of Appeal overturned the High Court’s decision, handing control of the party back to Governor Ganduje’s group.

Frustrated with the appellate court’s decision, the faction approached the country’s highest court.

After hearing the appeal on April 8, the Supreme Court’s five-member panel, led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili, adjourned and reserved judgement.

The apex court on Thursday reportedly called the parties to inform them that the judgement was ready and would be delivered on Friday.

The national leadership of the party had recognised the congresses of the Ganduje group, leading to the other faction heading to the court.
