Arsenal was defeated by their London rivals, Crystal Palace, at Selhurt Park after an extremely poor performance by the gunners. Goals from Mateta, Ayew, and Zaha sealed the victory for Patrick Vieira’s side after an entirely dominant performance in front of their home fans. That also indicated that Arsenal will not go back into the top 4 until at least another game week if their north London rivals, Spurs, fail to win their game.

Crystal Palace’s win also brought an end to Arsenal’s 5-game away winning streak in the English Premier league. However, it was a generally unsuccessful day for the gunner, losing Tierney to Injury during the build up to the game and Thomas Partey during the second half of the game.

With Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey both being an integral part of Arsenal’s recent successes, their absence will be a huge blow in their race for the top 4.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, speaking on Tierney’s injury said: “He came back from international duty and felt something wrong in his knee. There is some damage there. We will hopefully know more on Tuesday but it’s not looking good.”

With Partey yet to be assessed, Tierney will undergo knee surgery later this week and is expected to be out for the rest of the season.

Arteta could not hide his frustrations and even offered his apologies to the supporters after the game. “We were poor, especially in the first half. I apologize to our supporters. We need to put our hands up and get the criticism we deserve. Then we accept it, look ourselves in the mirror and look to the next game,” the gaffer said.

This is coming barely a week after the manager was crowned as the Premier League manager of the month for March.
