Bandits on Sunday night reportedly raped women, abduct six people and loot the valuables of Kwarin Mai Saje residents in Zamfara over their failure to pay N3 million levy.

The attack which was associated with the gang of Ada Aleru was said to be carried out to serve as a warning to defaulting communities.

Aliyu a native of the area who now lives in Kaduna told SAHELIAN TIMES in an interview that, Kwarin Mai Saje was initially not among the 13 communities that tax was imposed by the bandits.

He said the village was attacked by bandits numbering closer to 100, raped women some without giving concern to their marital status, and abducted six people.

However, a gang associated with banditry kingpin, Ada Aleru, dragged Kwarin Mai Saje into its own illegal tax net two weeks ago.

“The villagers tried to pay the imposed tax but they could gather up to three million nairas, they are poor and helpless,” he said.

The state’s police spokesperson, Mohammed Shehu, could be reached by our reporter at the time of writing this report.
