Bandits abduct village head, son in Bauchi State

The village head of Zira, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and his son have, in the early hours of Sunday, been kidnapped by suspected bandits.

The victims, identified as Yahya Saleh Abubakar and Habibu Saleh, were kidnapped five days after gunmen attacked Jimari community in Alkaleri Local Government Area, killing four people and injuring three others.

Police spokesman in Bauchi, SP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident saying the gunmen attacked village under Rishi Police Division, on the border with Plateau State, on Sunday around 2 am

Wakil said the Commissioner of Police, Umar Mamman Sanda, had directed the divisional police officer (DPO) in the area to rescue the abducted victim unhurt.

 “The command has since dispatched a team of detectives and other police officers to rescue the victims and presently our men are combing the bush in search of the abducted victims.

“We assure residents that the abducted persons shall soon be rescued, ” he said.

Wakil urged the public to remain calm and go about their normal business and report any suspicious characters as police are doing everything possible to rescue the victims.

As at the time of filing this report, the District Head of Lame, Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Lame, has said the abductors have not made contact with the family.
