Bandits strike Dankade village in Kebbi, kill soldiers, others

Residents fled after a bandit attack on Friday, leaving at least 50 bodies in Dankade village, Danko Wasagu, Local Government of Kebbi State.

The bandits attacked the village in the morning and evening of Friday, SAHELIAN TIMES gathered.

According to a source, Najib Wasagu, the bandits attacked the village early in the morning and killed scores of people, including “2 Soldiers and 2 policemen,” with many others injured.

“The bandits returned in the evening of the same day and burned down some residents’ houses.”

Wasugu, also noted the soldiers later went to the village to pick up the dead body of their men abandoning that of the police and civilians.

“Our main concern now is that the dead bodies have been abandoned for two days; we want to go in and bring their remains and bury them according to Islamic traditions, but everyone is afraid,” he explained.

At the time of writing this report, the Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson had not responded to our reporter’s call.
