Heavy security was deployed in and around Kano’s Upper Shari’a Court on Thursday as operatives brought the embattled and controversial cleric, Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara, to the courtroom for judgement.
The cleric is on trial for making alleged blasphemous statements about the Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH that have the potential to incite public unrest.
In July 2021, the state government charged Abduljabbar in court.
The verdict comes 15 months into the Kano Islamic cleric’s trial before the Upper Shari’a Court in Kofar Kudu.
The judgement is to be presided over by Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola.
