The Nigeria Football Federation has approved a proposal by its Technical and Development sub-committee to appoint Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro as the Super Eagles’ new head coach.
His appointment follows Gernot Rohr’s dismissal earlier this month.
However, the NFF executive committee has decided that interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen will lead the three-time African champions to the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, while coach Peseiro will serve as an observer.
According to the NFF, the tournament will provide an excellent opportunity for Peseiro to establish a working relationship with Eguavoen, who will return to his role as NFF technical director following the AFCON.
Until August, the 61-year-old was in charge of Venezuela’s national team. He has also coached Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, and Egypt’s Al Ahly.
Meanwhile, the executive committee has charged the Technical and Development Committee and the NFF secretariat with organizing a friendly match for the Super Eagles when they arrive in Garoua for AFCON 2021.
They have also been mandated to arrange matches for the Super Eagles and the Super Falcons in the upcoming FIFA windows.
