Buhari approves $8.5m for evacuation of Nigerians affected by war in Ukraine

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved $8.5 million budget to evacuate at least 5,000 Nigerians from Ukraine.

Nigerians mainly students have become stranded due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, announced this Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Ministries of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, presented and FEC approved a joint memo on the money meant for the evacuation of Nigerians currently in Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland.

Dada stated that three planes, two from Air Peace and one from Max Air, would fly as many shifts as possible to help with the evacuation of those who were currently on the ground.
