Buhari confers National Honour on Justice Tanko as Kayode Ariwoola becomes Acting Chief Justice

President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Kayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria following Justice Muhammad Tanko’s resignation, on Monday morning.

Justice Ariwoola, the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, was sworn in at around 3:00pm at the State House Council Chambers in Abuja.

He will act as CJN pending the time his name will be sent to the Senate by President Buhari for confirmation as the substantive CJN.

In the course of the swearing ceremony, President Buhari conferred on the outgone CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko, with the Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON), for his immense contributions to development of the judiciary in Nigeria.
