Buhari to sign 2021 budget today

President Muhammad Buhari will sign 2021 appropriation bill into law today, Thursday, December 31, 2020.

The budget was passed by the National Assembly last week.

This information was revealed by the presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, in an interview with Daily Trust.

According to Garba Shehu, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) expected to attend the event include Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planing, Hajiya Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, Minister of state, Budget and National Planing, Clement Agba, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emifiele, Director General of Budget Office, Ben Akabueze, and others.

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, all principal officers of National Assembly, and chairmen of the appropriations committees are all expected to witness the event.

Senator Babajide Omoworare, who’s the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on National Assembly (Senate) is expected to present the budget to the president together with Umar El Yakub, his counterpart in the House of Representative.

The event is scheduled to be conducted virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will be recalled that the National Assembly in an emergency session convened, passed a N13.58 trillion budget for the 2021 fiscal year, and the budget was passed after the two chambers considered and adopted the reports of its committees on the 2021 appropriation bill.
