English second division football club, Burnley, have announced the appointment Vincent Kompany as their new manager.
The club parted ways with their long-serving coach, Sean Dyche, towards the end of the 2021-22 PL campaign following an unacceptable run of games. They went further to engage Mike Jackson as caretaker manager but was unable keep the team in the English topflight.
Before his appointment as Burnley manager, Kompany attained a legendary status at Manchester City football club. He won many topflight titles during his playing days with club. Kompany captained City’s first-team in 8 of 11 seasons he spent at the club.
After leaving City in 2019, he returned to his boyhood club, Anderlecht of Belgian First Division A where his playing career began. He subsequently got hired as their coach. The former City defender resigned as Anderlecht’s coach in May after finishing third in the Belgian First Division A.
Speaking to the press after joining Burnely, Kompany termed the club as a historic English team.
“Burnley is a truly historic English side and it is an honour to be appointed first-team manager. I’m excited by the challenge ahead,” said the Man City legend.
Burnley’s chairman, Alan Pace, was full of praise for Kompany in a press conference while welcoming the new manager.
“Vincent is a proven leader. I’ve been impressed with his ideas for Burnley, his appetite to succeed and his focus on leading the club back to the Premier league,” Alan Pace said.
The Clarets, who got relegated from the Premier league, believe Kompany is the right man to revive the club.
