Community Policing: Ganduje inaugurates 704 trained constabulary

The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has inaugurated the trained 704 Constabulary Police on Sunday, at Kano Pillars Stadium, Sabon Gari Kano, after graduating from Kaduna Police Training School.

In a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar, Ganduje promised to get a total of 4,400 Constabulary men in due course for the state for the remaining period of recruitment exercise, all in an effort to allow the state continue with the peaceful atmosphere.

He disclosed that “We are determined to secure our state to the best of our ability. This set of 704 is the first set in the series of 4,400, that we aim to achieve in due course. We always seek for Allah’s help in this effort.”

After congratulating them for the completion of the two months of training, he reminded them that, “security is a challenge in the country. We, therefore, designed a number of programs and projects to face the challenge.”

“I congratulate you for finishing your training successfully. You are able to endure all the physical training and all the protocols attached to the training,” he said.

Governor Ganduje assured that his administration would not relent in its effort in promoting state security through community policing, adding that, “we take community policing very seriously. Security is the business of everybody.”

Kano, according to the Governor, has committees at different stages in the society, which are aimed at making stronger, community policing strategy, “…and we are sure there is good flow of information at all levels.”

The stages of the community policing committees, as enunciated by his administration are that of Village committee, Ward committee, local government committee headed by District Head, Emirate committee headed by an Emir of that Emirate and state committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government.

While urging them to work hard and contribute their share in keeping the state secured and peaceful, he ordered them “to work closely and in harmony with all the security agencies in the state. Your work is not any different with them. Therefore, it is necessary for you to make sure that you put hands together with all other security agencies and promote peaceful atmosphere in the state.”

He promised giving them allowances to help them in the good discharge of their assigned responsibilities, that “Yours is a voluntary work. But we are designing some allowances for you. Another set of 100 people will be going for training, as a second batch of the exercise,” he discloses.

In the concluding part of his remarks, he revealed that, when there is any opportunity for recruitment in any of the security circle, they (constabulary) would be regarded first, before any other consideration, urging that, “We should all continue to thank Almighty Allah for securing our state.”

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sule Balarabe, appreciated the State Government for the effort.

“It is of good note to also appreciate the community policing committees set up by the state government. It goes a long way in keeping the state peaceful at all times.

While these constabulary are doing their best in helping the Command achieve alot of things in the security of the state, we are therefore calling on you to keep the momentum,” he advised.
