A Magistrate Court sitting in Sokoto on Monday remanded two suspects Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci in connection with murder of Deborah Samuel, a 200-Level Home Economics student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State, on May 12.
SAHELIAN TIMES reported how a female student was lynched to death over alleged blasphemy.
The suspects, who were classmates of the deceased, were arraigned in the court over their alleged involvement in the killing.
They both, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Because Deborah’s body was still being held in a morgue at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, prosecuting Inspector Khalil Musa told the court that an investigation was underway.
Prof. Mansur Ibrahim, who led a team of 34 lawyers, applied for their bail on liberal terms, citing constitutional provisions and sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
The trial judge (name withheld for security reasons) reserved his decision on the bail application and remanded the accused to a correctional facility.
