Kano High Court has restrained the state’s commissioner of police, Ismaila Dikko and Inspector Friday from arresting a popular broadcast journalist, Nasiru Salisu Zango.

Zango, in his radio programme “In da ranka” aired on Freedom Radio exposed how some police officers allegedly extorted money from some indigenes of the state in the name of bail.

However, piqued by the story, the commissioner police ordered his arrest shortly after the episode was aired.

The journalist therefore sought redress in the court against harassment and detention.

The presiding judge, justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar, issued an interim order restraining the parties from arrest.

“An order of Interim Injunction is hereby granted retraining the 1st and 2nd Respondents in person or through their officers, agents or privies from threatening to arrest, arresting or howsoever interfering with the Applicant’s right of expression and press freedom in connection with the subject matter of this suit, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive application,” the order read.

The case is adjourned to November 19, 2021 for a hearing of Motion on Notice.
