A Kano High Court has sentenced a 19-year-old man to death by hanging for the murder of his five-year-old nephew, Ahmad Ado.

The convict, Ibrahim Khalil, killed his victim by sellotaping his nose and mouth which led to his death.

The presiding judge, Justice Usman Naabba, convicted Khalil on two counts of kidnapping and homicide.

In his judgment, Justice Na’abba ascertained that the prosecution had proven their case beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced the convict to 14 years in prison for kidnapping and death by hanging for homicide.

The Prosecution Counsel, Lamido Sorondinki, had previously informed the court that the convict committed the crime sometime in 2019 in Kano’s Karkasara Quarters.

Sorondinki stated that they kidnapped his sister’s son, Ahmad Ado, and used sellotape to seal his nose and mouth before burying him in a very shallow grave at Sabuwar Sheka in Kano.

The prosecution presented three witnesses and four exhibits to the court to prove their case against the defendant.

The convict, on the other hand, denied committing the crime.

The prosecutor claimed that the offence violated sections 274 and 221 (a) of the penal code.

The defense counsel, Barr. Aisha Abdulkadir, presented the defendant as a lone witness and pleaded for clemency on behalf of her client.
