Bridge Connect Africa Initiative (BCAI) on Sunday, took to the streets of 4 Local Government Areas in Kano State to sensitize and educate communities on COVID-19.
The awareness campaign was aimed at sensitising rural communities within Kano state on the effect of coronavirus, and educating them on the preventive and protective measures in accordance with the WHO provisions.
The Executive Director of BCAI, Sani Muhammad, who was part of the campaign team mentioned that it is important for people at the rural level to be abreast with covid-19 preventive measures.
“People in the rural areas have little or no access to information and that poses a threat to their health and ours too because nobody is safe until we all are safe”.
“No doubt people still face challenges adapting to the realities of Covid -19 and only few adhere to the protocols”, he said.
According to Muhammad, the awareness campaign targeted 400 people across 4 LGAs – Dawakin Kudu, Kumbotso, Nassarawa and Ungogo – as part of the Youth Community Immunity Ambassador (YCIA) Project commissioned by UNFPA in partnership with the Centre for Girls Education and implemented in Kano by BCAI.
He noted that the 20 YCIA Ambassadors in the various communities also incorporated gender-based violence awareness raising in their messages, educating community leaders, parents and children on child protection and ways to create inclusive, gender-friendly environments where there is a good response and preventive mechanism for all forms of sexual and gender-based violence
