Sokoto State Governor, Bar. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the governor has declared a 24-hour curfew as youths’ protest degenerated into uncontrollable violence.
Pandemonium in Sokoto as youths storm Sultan’s palace in protest of his stand on blasphemy

Pandemonium broke out in Sokoto on Saturday as a large number of youths stormed the palace of the Sultan, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, to protest arrests of the suspected killers of late Deborah and the stance of the Sultanate on her blasphemy.

SAHELIAN TIMES reported how angry students lynched the female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, (SSCOE) Sokoto for passing blasphemous comment on Prophet Muhammad(pbuh).

The sultan issued a statement condemning the killing and called for the arrest of the perpetrators.

Armed security personnel were quickly deployed to control the angry Sokoto residents who attempted to break into the Palace, leading to the death of at least 3 persons.
