The Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has for the first time opened up on the viral videos showing him pocketing bundles of dollars, allegedly as kickbacks, which he now described as fake.

Ganduje who featured in a BBC Hausa program of “Afada a Cika” gave the assurance while responding to a question raised by Comrade Kabiru Dakata from CAJA NGO.

Ganduje also stressed that the people behind the release of the videos would soon be disappointed. However, he failed to provide any proof to support his assertion.

It will be recalled that the publisher of Daily Nigerian online newspaper, Ja’afar Ja’afar, had released a series of videos in a sting operation showing Ganduje allegedly collecting kickbacks from a contractor in dollars, which he stuffed in his “babbariga” pocket.

The Daily Nigerian exclusive report generated interest across the nation, which necessitated the State House of Assembly to initiate an investigation into the matter.

Ja’afar testified under oath before the State Assembly’s committee; however, Ganduje refused to appear. Instead, he ran to court and secured an injunction compelling the Assembly to suspend the investigation.
