The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has disowned a letter of appointment circulating on social media purportedly issued to Bashir Ahmad, media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Agency said this in a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs, Paul Osu, and titled, ‘DPR Disowns Fake Letter Of Appointment Circulating On Social Media.’

The letter stated that Bashir Ahmad has been appointed “as the manager/supervisor of the National Production Monitoring System under the downstream monitoring and regulatory department on GL 05, S1 on contributory pension scheme in line with the Pension Reforms Act 2004 as (amended) 2014.”

The letter also stated that the appointment which will last for three months will see Ahmad earn N437,000.000 as salary.

Dismissing the letter as fake, the DPR said it is the handiwork of some mischief-makers hiding behind the veil of social media to spread fake news and mislead the public.

“The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) attention has been drawn to a fake letter of appointment circulating on social media purportedly issued to one Bashir Ahmad”. The statement read.

“This is the handiwork of some mischief makers hiding behind the veil of social media to spread fake news and mislead the public.

We hereby advise members of the public to disregard the purported letter in its entirety as it is not from DPR.
