The Department of Security Service (DSS) has confirmed the SAHELIAN TIMES’ report on the arrest of the Islamic State, West African Province (ISWAP) commander in Kano.
According to the DSS Abba, who was arrested alongside his members of his cell with dangerous weaponry, was named by an ISWAP terrorist in detention.
The DSS’s confirmation came in the heels of Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor’s revelation about a major planned attack that was foiled in the state.
According to Irabo the attack would have resulted in one of the country’s most “deadly attacks” ever if the terrorist had succeeded.
SAHELIAN TIMES had on Friday exclusively reported that a high-ranking ISWAP’s commander was nabbed by the security forces in Kano, raising concerns about how terrorists have been trying to infiltrate the state recently.
The commander , identified as Mallam Abba, and his accomplices were apprehended at Samegu community in the state’s Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Abba, who was in charge of the sect’s recruitment and contact mobilisation, was suspected to be coordinating ISWAP’s activities in the state.
It could be recalled also that on n May 17, an explosion in Aba Road, Sabon Gari of the state, killed nine people.
The cause of the explosion was revealed to be a gas cylinder before the police later blamed an improvised explosive device (IED).
Similarly, days after the tragic event the state police command announced that it has intercepted a vehicle fully loaded with Improvised Explosive Device, IED materials.
It could be recalled on May 25, that Police in Kano State intercepted a Golf 3 car with arms and ammunition at Inusawa village in Ungogo Local Government Area.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Musa Daura, told journalists in the state that the car with registration number, AG 701 KTN, was intercepted on Tuesday around 9.30 p.m. following a tip-off.
“The occupants of the vehicle on sighting the police patrol vehicle opened fire and immediately our men responded with superior power.
“This made the occupants to abandon their vehicle and escape into the bush with bullet wounds,” he said.
The commissioner said after careful search on the vehicle, some items were recovered, including one AK-47 rifle, one assault rifle and 238 live ammunition of different calibres.
Others were one rocket launcher, eight Ak-47 magazines, seven Turkey oil remote control bomb,s and two cylinders remote control devices.
