The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Abdulaziz Yari, the former Governor of Zamafara State, for allegedly conspiring with the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, to squander over N80 billion.
According to EFCC sources, the anti-graft agency discovered a suspicious N20 billion transaction between the former governor and the AGF.
Yari, a former Zamfara State governor, was arrested on Sunday at his Abuja residence, just days after winning the ruling APC’s ticket for the Zamfara West senatorial election next year. He won with no opposition.
Idris, the AGF under criminal investigation, has been in EFCC custody for the past 13 days, facing investigators over allegations of N80 billion in corruption.
Yari was governor of Zamfara State, a between 2007 and 2019.
