The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained the son of a former Nasarawa State Governor, Amir Tanko Al-Makura about a suspicious property purchase worth N130 million.

A source with the EFCC has confirmed to a leading online newspaper, Premium Times, that the 24-year-old Amir paid N96million cash “in foreign currency equivalent” as part payment for the property.

“In furtherance to our Real Estate investigation, we invited Amir Tanko Almakura the son of Senator Almakura.

The source said that Amir reported to the commission.”But has failed to explain the source of the money or give a genuine explanation on how the property was acquired,”

According to the source, the suspect is still detained because he has yet to meet the bail conditions imposed on him.

“He has been detained pending the fulfillment of bail conditions,” a source said.

Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s spokesperson, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.

Amir’s arrest comes nearly nine months after the EFCC arrested his father, Mr Al-Makura, a sitting senator, and his wife, Mairo, in July of last year.
