Briefly after the announcement of Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Sa’ad, the leader of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) about completing 30 days in Ramadan, SAHELIAN TIMES took a glance at other countries that would be celebrating Eid tomorrow or the day after.

Today being the 29th of Ramadan, 1442 meant that it was yet another time to start searching for the moon of the new month of Shawwal. Moonsighting in Islam signifies the beginning of a new lunar month in Islam. The criteria for determining beginning of Islamic lunar months is based on the Sunnah of naked eye sighting or completing 30 days of the month if the moon is not sighted

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday also announced that the crescent moon of Shawwal was not sighted, therefore announced Eid will hold on Thursday.

Countries such as Indonesia, Qatar, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Malaysia, and Turkey have all declared that the Shawwal crescent was not seen today. Thursday would be their Eid-Al-Fitr

The Shawwal crescent was sighted by our immediate neighbor, Niger Republic, as announced by Prime minister Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou.
