A renowned Islamic scholar, in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, and his large followers observed Eid prayers at his residence in Bauchi State on Wednesday.

One of the cleric’s children, Sheikh Tijjani Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, led the Eid prayers while the Sheikh followed, alongside the congregation.

After the prayers, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi said they conducted their Eid prayers because they were assured of the moon of the month of Shawwal being sighted on Tuesday.

According to him, “Based on these reports that the moon was sighted, what is said by two righteous people when they see it is enough for us people, or a large crowd.”

He added that the moon was seen in places such as Gombe, Gadau and Kebbi.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi said they had no right to deny the people who confirmed the sighting of the moon “because they are numerous. That is why we have now come to perform the Eid prayers because the month of Ramadan is over, the month of Shawwal has arrived.”

The majority of Nigerian Muslims will observe Eid prayers on Thursday after the Sultan’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Nigerian Monthly Committee said they had not received any reports of the sighting of the baby in the month of Shawwal on Tuesday. May 2021 which corresponds to the 29th of Ramadan 1442 AH.

That is why the Sultan of Sokoto, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Thursday, May 13, 2021, as the day of Salat and the 1st of Shawwal.
