In an apparent response to public outcry, Kaduna State Government has approved immediate reopening of tertiary schools, beginning from Monday 25th January 2021.

This was announced in a press statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Phoebe Sukai Yayi.

According to the release, the decision to reopen tertiary schools was made after receiving a report from the assessment team, which indicated adequate preparedness and full compliance with the “State Covid-19 preventive protocols.”

The statement, however, warned that any contravention of the preventive protocol will lead to “closure of the institution without notice.”

It will be recalled that Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has earlier halted initial plan to reopen the school on 25th January 2021 for academic activities due to the failure of Kaduna state government to grant it approval.

SAHELIAN TIMES had reported about how ABU’s last-minute tardiness in reopening left several students stranded.
