Elrufai’s Rejects Kingmakers Recommendations, Orders Fresh Selection Process.

The search for the new Emir of Zazzau has taken another twist as the Kaduna State Government announced the cancellation of the ongoing selection process.

This was disclosed by the Secretary to the State Government, Balarabe Abbas Lawal. Mr. Abbas revealed that the cancellation was due to the exclusion of some applicants from the selection process.

Recall that the now cancelled process had reached advanced stage after kingmakers forwarded the names of 3 candidates to the State Government for approval. Already, there were speculations that the Governor may overrule the process after his alleged favorite candidate was excluded from the 3-man shortlist sent by the kingmakers.

With the re-opening of the selection process, 13 candidates are now jostling to succeed the late Emir of Zazzau who died on 20th September, 2020 at the age of 84 after spending 45 years on the throne, the longest serving monarch from the Sokoto Jihad Era.

Initially, the Governor has engaged in academic research by reading books on the history of the Zazzau Emirate, northern Nigeria and leadership in order to gain insights on how to deal with the challenge of royal succession in the Zazzau Emirate.

With this development, the wait for the new Emir of Zazzau is getting longer.
