A group of people staging protest against pervasive insecurity affecting the northern Nigeria were attacked and dispersed by weapons-bearing thugs on BUK Road, Kano.
The protest started from Kabuga quarter in Gwale local government area as a peaceful one until the protesters ran into the thugs. A score of people were injured, including a reporter for one of the Nigerian newspapers.
Aliyu Samba who was there to cover the protest told the Sahelian Times that, “They staged the protest with the intention to draw government attention to do the needful in curtailing the menace of insecurity bedevilling northern Nigeria.”
Mr. Samba added that Police officers were at the scene, but did not make any effort to stop the thugs from attacking the protesters.
