Either the former National Chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rufai Hanga, or the former Representative for Dala Federal Constituency, Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, may emerge as the replacement of Shekarau for the NNPP’s vacant Kano Central senatorial ticket.

This change is following the unceremonious defection of the former Kano State governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who joined the People Democratic Party (PDP) and abandoned the Senate ticket given to him by NNPP.

SAHELIAN TIMES gathered that the formal defection of Shekarau, who was wooed by the PDP’s presidential flag bearer, Alh Atiku Abubakar, has changed the political alignments within the NNPP Kano Central senatorial zone.

All indications point to the likely emergence of either Hanga or Madakin Gini, according to a reliable source.

When our reporter inquired about the chances of returning the ticket to Ali Sani Madakin Gini, who was initially vying for the position before Shekarau’s defection to NNPP, the source stated that the former lawmaker is facing a tough challenge from Hanga, who seems to have an edge in the current permutations, pending any last minutes changing circumstances.

“Madaki is currently holding the NNPP’s ticket for the House of Representatives for Dala, unlike Hanga who currently seems not compensated with any ticket,” said the source who confided in SAHELIAN TIMES.
