Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has withdrawn his Senate bid just hours after being screened by the party screening committee.

Ganduje withdrew to pave way for Senator Barau Jibrin of Kano North Senatorial Zone to resolve the escalating crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

SAHELIAN TIMES gathered Ganduje stepped down after party leaders in Abuja pressured him to abandon his aspirations for peace to reign in the party.

Senator Jibril, a leading member of the G7 faction, has refused to abandon the APC despite being denied the opportunity to run for governor of the state.

Some key figures of the G7 faction have since defected to the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

Former Governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who is the faction’s leader is expected to formally announce his defection to the NNPP today.

The agreement reached between him and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been confirmed to our reporter by a source within the APC’s party leadership.
