Alhassan Yau, a 30-year old patient with a previous history of psychiatric illness, had reportedly slit the throat of his one-year-old son at his home in Dangarko village, Jahun local government, Jigawa state.
The unfortunate incident was confirmed by the police to have occurred on Monday 23/11/2020, at about 9:00 am.
Alhassan was said to have taken the child, named Sani, to his room and used a knife to slit his throat, which resulted to the child’s death. He later threw the corpse away after committing the murder.
Upon receipt of the report, the police rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect. Some exhibits have been recovered at the crime scene, and the child was immediately moved to hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.
The corpse has been released to the relatives for burial. However, the suspect will be transferred to Kazaure pyschiatric hospital for medical attention.
