The Zonal Controller of Federal Fire Service in charge of Zone ‘M’ comprising Kano and Jigawa States Fire Service commands, Alhaji Saleh Usman Yakmut, has commended the management of Bayero University, Kano for its foresight and initiatives.
He spoke on Wednesday, 8th September, 2021 when he led the other senior officers of the command to pay a courtesy visit on the Vice Chancellor. He charged other tertiary institutions in the zone to emulate the foresight of BUK by taking safety measures in their respective institutions.
“Mr. Vice Chancellor sir, we are here personally to express our profound appreciation on the existing cordial relationship between the University and our agency. We are indeed grateful for your support and assistance,” said Mr. Yakmut
According to him, he was particularly impressed by the decision of the Management of BUK to engage the operatives of the Federal Fire Service on safety training conducted on the security staff of the University sometimes last year.
Mr. Yakmut noted that the report of the training exercise which was submitted to the headquarters in Abuja particularly excited the Controller General of Fire Service in which he recommended other tertiary institutions across the country to emulate the good example of BUK.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, said the University is ever willing to render any support where possible to the agency especially as it affects manpower training and career development.
Professor Abbas noted that the importance of fire service cannot be over emphasized. “We welcome you and always our doors are wide open to render any support and assistance where possible.” According to him, men of fire services have been part and parcel of the University community.
The Vice Chancellor promised to support the agency for a successful hosting of the 2021 Fire Safety Week, pointing out that the agency had been a partner in progress.
