The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the deadline given for mobile phone subscribers to link their SIM cards with their National Identification Numbers.
At the end of a meeting of the meeting of the National Task Force on National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM Registration the federal government endorsed that subscribers that have already got NINs will have up to 19th January, 2021 to link their lines with their NiNs while subscribers with no NIN will have up to 9th February, 2021 to link their lines. USSD and NIN verification charges remain suspended throughout the period.
Following the abduction of students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara, the federal government gave mobile phone line subscribers up to 30th December, 2020 to link their lines with their NINs. The directive however caused uproar due to the inadequacy of the period given. The National Assembly also wade in requesting an extension for the exercise.
