The Federal Government have confirmed the reopening of all the remaining land borders after spending one year closed.

President Muhammad Buhari ordered the reopening of four of the land borders in the country last month.
In August 2019, Nigeria closed all its land borders to curtail the importation of foreign rice and weapons into the country.

Comptroller of Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Muhammad Babandede said President Muhammad Buhari has ordered the reopening of the remaining borders.

“This is a good development as the time when Nigeria enter into free-trade agreement with African countries and this will help in the movement of people and goods”. Said Babandede

He said in the first place we opened Seme, Maigatari, Illela and Nfom borders at the end of December.

He added that there will be health workers in all the borders to make sure people respect the COVID-19 protocols before they will be allowed to enter.

He said the health workers will check the temperature of people, providing social distancing and everybody most wear a face mask to stop the spread of the virus.

He lastly said they will not allow anybody access to the country if caught breaching the protocols
