Federal Government will release N50 billion to university lecturers to cover their outstanding earned allowances.

A source within the National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) disclosed that 50 billion has been budgeted to cater for outstanding earned allowances while 170 billion has been fixed for salary increases.

It gathered that from 2024 the payment of the earned allowances will be taken over by the governing council of the Federal Universities, the PUNCH reported.

According to the source “From 2024, it is the various governing councils that will be paying earned allowances while 300 billion will go for revitalization”.

Meanwhile, ASUU branches across the country have begun to vote on the union’s lingering strike.

The branch chairpersons are expected to submit their reports by Thursday in order for the National Executive Council ( NEC) to make a formal decision.
